Jordan Exit World Cup Despite Taking Early Lead
Jordan became the first Asian team to be eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Algeria in Group J.
The World Cup debutants made a promising start and took the lead in the first half through Nizar Al Rashdan, raising hopes of keeping their qualification chances alive. However, Algeria responded strongly after the break, with Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri both finding the net from corner-kick situations to complete the comeback.
The result ended Jordan’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage, while Algeria stayed firmly in contention for qualification. Algeria’s victory also confirmed Argentina as Group J winners with a game to spare.
