Singapore Begin ASEAN Hyundai Cup Campaign with 2-1 Victory

Singapore opened their ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026 Group A campaign with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Cambodia after Ilhan Fandi struck a stunning winner deep into stoppage time at Morodok Techo National Stadium on Friday.

The visitors had taken the lead in the 22nd minute through Shawal Anuar, but Cambodia responded after the break when Ouk Sovann found the equalizer following a strong second-half display.

With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Ilhan produced a moment of brilliance in the closing seconds of added time, controlling the ball before firing a spectacular volley into the net to seal all three points for Gavin Lee’s side.

The late defeat was a heartbreaking outcome for Cambodia, who enjoyed long spells of possession and created the better chances in the second half but were unable to capitalize on their dominance.
